Background
Derek’s extensive background in retriever training started with his co-ownership of War Eagle Retrievers, after which he designed and developed the first retriever training facility and lodge – The Retriever Academy, located in Miami Oklahoma.
Through training and handling, Derek has achieved a multitude of the highest honors in the AKC, HRC & NAHRA, including GRHRCH, GMHR, and MH. He is the owner and trainer of the first 2-time SRS Champion, and most recently, set a new HRC Grand record for the most passes in a single Grand – 7 for 7.
Over the past 20 years, Derek has hosted countless seminars and sanctioned events, including AKC Hunt Tests/Field Trials, HRC Hunt Tests and SRS Qualifiers. He is currently developing and implementing the United Retriever Series: The only "competitive/standardized" retriever game to use simulated birds.
