The system doesn’t get the exact range stated.
Many factors can impact the range of the system. For consistent results at longer ranges, hold the Remote Transmitter in a vertical position away from your body and over your head. Terrain, weather, vegetation, transmission from other radio devices, and other factors will affect the maximum range. If the system is getting less than 2/3 of ideal range, see troubleshooting tips below.
- Test the batteries.
- Charge/replace the batteries.
- Make sure that the dog’s immediate surroundings are free from metal obstructions that can reduce the unit’s operational range.
- Make sure the hand held transmitter has a solid light when the button is pressed and the collar is showing a good battery.
- For FieldTrainer SD-400 and SD-400S models: Turn the collar on and sit it in front of you so that you can see the light. Hold the handheld transmitter antenna in one hand, place the hand held transmitter behind your back, and press the upper button on the front of the transmitter. If the collar does not respond, then the collar needs to be replaced. If the collar does respond, the transmitter and collar need to be replaced.
